www.coral.co.uk – John Oxx’s charge Sea The Stars is the new second favourite for next year’s Derby after winning the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh.

The two-year-old won the group two mile event in testing ground conditions showing he should have no trouble in stepping up to the mile and a half Classic trip in 2009.
The colt is now around 16/1 for the Epsom contest after a finishing half a length ahead of fellow group one hopeful Masterofthehouse who was back in third. The latter is now available to back at 16/1 for the UK’s premier contest.
Super trainer Aiden O’Brien’s unbeaten prospect Rip Van Winkle is also fancied for the big one after a couple of outings including a great win in the group three Tyros Stakes. He is expected to make his debut at the highest level very soon and good performance in those races will see the 12/1 about him at the moment disappear quicker than the Bradford and Bingley.
Another John Oxx charge Arazan is also in with a shout for June’s big race after landing a group two earlier this season. That was followed though by a defeat to another potential Derby entrant, Mastercraftsman, in his first group one outing. That was over seven furlongs in heavy conditions perhaps putting a doubt next to his name over stamina and therefore his staying power for the Classic distance.
