IPL/Cricket latest update

After the recent round of results in the Indian Premier League tournament being played in South Africa one thing is for certain and that is money does not always bring you everything you want.

Although Kevin Pieterson has cost his team the Bangalore Royal Challengers a quoted half a million pounds for his few weeks work due to England’s upcoming test series with the West Indies he scored his second consecutive duck in his sides defeat against the Kings XI Punjab.

The English team’s most potent batting weapon has looked nothing like the Kevin Pieterson that was scoring for fun with his powerful strokes in the last few years for well over six months now and was dismissed by Yusuf Abdullah on the second ball of his innings in this latest defeat.

Ironically Pietersons lesser known English player who cost his side only a fraction of what Pieterson has cost his side stole the show in this latest round of results in his sides Kings XI Punjab victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore, winning by a healthy seven-wicket margin and scoring 84 runs in the process.

One major bit of bad news for England and himself is the news Freddie Flintoff has once again been ruled out of this IPL tournament with injury.

He has been recalled immediately by the English Cricket board after a scan on his injured knee revealed a problem and with him already ruled out of the upcoming tour of England by the West Indies the surgery he is due to have will give him every chance of being ready for England’s slim chances of regaining the Ashes which if Freddie does not play in will probably be reduced to no chance at all.

Ladbrokes – Premier League Update

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Monday Apr 27th, 2009

Ladbrokes - This weekend Manchester United have the chance to once again open up a gap at the top of the Premier league, after losing the last two games on the spin fans of the Red Devils will be hoping they can get the three points off another out of form side in Aston Villa at Old Trafford to take their lead at the top to 4 points with the same amount of games played as both nearest challengers Liverpool and third placed Chelsea.

I expect a tight game in which United will nick it by a goal to nil with Rooney getting on the score sheet.
With Liverpool having a weekend off this week Chelsea’s away game at Newcastle is also a game in which if they do not win they can count themselves out of the title race, but this is a game in which I expect to win comfortably especially with Newcastle’s troubles so Chelsea winning by at least two goals is the way to go here.

Arsenal who now look like a top 4 club once again host Manchester City in a game in which they should win, like Man-Utd I think this will be a close game that Arsenal will win by a goal to nil.

The games involving teams at the bottom look tough, West Brom host Stoke City but with them now seven points from safety I think they are already down and I think this will be a score draw. 2nd bottom Middlesbrough face a daunting trip to Bolton in a game they must win with them 4 points from safety and having a tough run in, I expect this game to go Bolton’s way with a 2-nil score line.

Coral Betting – Formula 1

The glamour world of Formula 1 racing is once again back on our screens with the normal Australian season opener once again back on our Television sets.

This year the teams have had to redesign their cars after major development issues that were ordered by the leading rule maker in the Sport and many people are hoping for a lot closer fight for the championship which everyone hopes will not be between the normal two teams who have dominated the sport for years in Ferrari and McLaren.

After the early season testing that the teams always do before the season starts to check if their cars are up for the fight of the demanding season the surprise to everyone is debutants Brawn racing (formerly Honda) who have left everybody on the grid standing and even other teams are even questioning if their car is illegal which I think is a really low blow myself considering the amount of experience and expertise their new boss brings to the table.

The controversy surrounds a part of the car which seems to be taking over half a second off all their rivals every lap but as far as I can understand the part is perfectly legal and just a little trick that Ross Brawn I am sure kept up his sleeve when all these new regulations came in and I am sure it will make for a tighter race at the front of the grid.

As you probably know all the leading Sports book websites will all be having books open throughout the season with many bets on offer at every race, from qualifying to the race and even who will get the fastest lap all on offer with Ladbrokes always at the front of the bets in Formula 1.

Williamhill.com – Betting on Football

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Friday Apr 17th, 2009

There are many ways of betting on football games; ‘Correct score’, ‘half time – full time’, ‘over-under’, ‘and first player to score’, etc, etc. Most people, however, don’t realise that many of these different bets are actually equivalent to each other and depend on the same outcome at the end of the game.

For example; betting on ‘half time/full time’ requires the same outcome as the straight full time result. So, placing a bet on Manchester United to be winning at half time and full time, is the same as placing a bet on Manchester United to win the game, but the difference is the odds – in the ‘half time/full time’ market the odds are considerably higher which means you can place a lower stake at higher odds. Of course, it doesn’t mean there is the same chance of you winning, but it is useful if you are betting in-play and you want to see how the game pans out before going ‘all-in’!

A favourite bet for seasoned gamblers is to place a small stake on 0-0 correct score and then bet in-play. The 0-0 correct score is the same as draw/draw in the ‘half time/full time’ market and a straight draw in the ‘win-draw-win’ market.

So, if there is a team playing that you strongly fancy to win, the bet on the 0-0 correct score is insurance against a boring no goal game. Odds on 0-0 are typically between 8-1 and 12-1 decreasing to around 4-1 if the score is 0-0 at half time. Given this scenario, you might be hoping that the game does indeed end up a boring draw.

It can be quite interesting discovering bets that are equivalent to each other but with vastly differing odds. Take time to look around at the odds available and you could be betting with smaller stakes for greater returns!
