Over recent years the sport has become more of a business than a sport but this doesn’t put people off. A football match is contested of 22 players, 11 on each time and is officiated by a referee and 2 assistant referees, finally there is a fourth official who is in charge of displaying added time (fourth officials are only used in professional football). There are many different football competitions, for example there is the domestic league, and domestic cup football, then we have continental football where the club teams from Europe play each other.

Then we have national football, the biggest competition being the FIFA World Cup. This is a competition that only happens every four years, although it takes two years to qualify, different nations from Europe get separated into groups to play each other, the same happens in South America, Africa and Oceania. Then a set amount from all over the world go through to the main finals that are held in a different country every team, the next one being in South Africa. This competition is the cream of football that everybody wants to win more than anything.

Ladbroke.co.uk – Chelsea

It appears that Chelsea isn’t in much luck to top the charts and replace Liverpool in the Premier League game once again. The match between Everton and Chelsea ended with a 0 -0 draw putting Liverpool safely in the top position. It may not be for long, but for now, Liverpool can attempt to place a wider gap between them.

Chelsea’s desire to win the match against Everton has result in a rough game displaying only physical strength and not of top-notch football skills. This was clearly demonstrated in Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard being booked for challenging the referee’s decision. Ballack was also booked at 67’ minutes and Terry at 37’ minutes was sent off court leaving Chelsea to fend the remaining match.

A person worth mentioning is goalkeeper Petc Cech who was constantly defending Everton’s attacks and ensuring that Chelsea did not lose a single point in this intense Premier League Games. It appears that Everton came close to creating their first goal for this match as Osman and Fellaini displayed good chemistry but was blocked by Petc Cech. Later on, a penalty kick was issued and Yobo took it head on. It was once again blocked by Chelsea’s goalkeeper as he diligently keep Everton in place.

Not long after which Chelsea also picked up speed and challenged Everton as seen in the display of Ballack getting in a good position to strike, which did not see through eventually.

Now, Chelsea remains in 2nd position and Everton in 7th.

Ladbroke.co.uk – Fast Bowler Stuart Clarke

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Sunday Jan 11th, 2009

www.ladbroke.co.uk – Australian front line fast bowler Stuart Clarke’s career may well be over after he pulled up sore during a net session in Perth yesterday, ruling him out of the first test against the South Africans.

The blow comes as Australia prepare for an all out war of the fast bowlers following the arrival of ‘the world’s fastest bowler’ in Dale Steyn along with countrymen Mkaya Ntini and Morne Morkel.

Perth is often a pitch that can be one by the quicks if they get on top early and Clark plays an integral role in tying down and frustrating a batsman with his unwavering line and length.

The Aussies may take some comfort from Brett Lee’s ominous return to form as well some decent form from the ever-reliable Mitchell Johnson.

Stuart Clarke’s best figures came against South Africa when he captured 20 wickets in a three test series that also happened to be Clarke’s debut series.

In that series he had an astounding average of just 15.85 runs per wicket.

A forlorn Clarke sat at training, apparently on the verge of tears, as he team mates did their best to console.

Clarke has missed the last two test series with a wear and tear injury to his elbow.

He will use the same surgeon that operated on Ricky Ponting’s wrist earlier in the year to remove bone fragment from the joints caused by throwing a cricket ball.

There a no guarantees for this kind of surgery and the thirty-three year old Clarke must now prepare for a life without cricket.

Williamhill.com – Ben Cousins

www.williamhill.com – Ben Cousins arrived at Melbourne’s Tullamarine airport last night to a heroes welcome, a reception he has not received since leading the West Coast Eagles to a nail biting premiership victory over the Sydney Swans in 2006.

Tiger fans turned out in droves to welcome the disgrace former West Coast Eagle who was happy to stop and sign autographs and responded well to the extra attention.

Tiger supporters have been one of the key factors in drafting cousins to the club, which has the reputation as a bit of a bridesmaid.

The Tigers have an uncanny habit of finishing ninth on the ladder and club stalwart and legend Matthew Richardson has only had two (albeit brief) finals appearances in his sixteen year career with Richmond.

In a poll conducted by the Herald Sun, an astounding 80 per cent of readers believed that Richmond had done the right thing in throwing the Brownlow Medalist a lifeline.

A buzz has hit punt road the likes of which has not been seen in twenty years or more.

Memberships are already up as fans salivate at the prospect of securing an experienced and proven champion for a relative pittance.

You only need to look as far as Carlton to see the benefits of having a premiership player and genuine superstar in the team.

In his first year, Chris Judd was named Captain of the Blues who only narrowly missed out on a finals birth after spending the majority of the last eight years in the cellar as the laughing stock of the AFL.
